To follow the path of reconciliation, Western Varieties would like to respectfully honor the history of amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton) located within Treaty 6 Territory and within traditional Metis homelands.
This land, upon which we live and work, is the traditional home of many Indigenous Peoples including: néhiyaw (Nay-hee-yow)/ Cree, Dene (Deh-nay), Anishinaabe (Ah-nish-in-ah-bay) / Saulteaux (So-toe), Nakota Isga (Na-koh-tah ee-ska) / Nakota Sioux (Na-koh-ta sue), and Niitsitapi (Nitsi-tahp-ee) / Blackfoot and Métis (May-tee) peoples.
We encourage everyone to learn more about Indigenous peoples and the history of the land that we are visitors upon, as well as the rich culture that continues influence our vibrant and diverse community.
